“Momentum: Progress in Action,” a collection of articles highlighting the positive impact of high standards on student learning across the country, was released by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation this week. The newsletter features an inspiring success story from Nancy Barile, an English teacher at Revere High School, where Great Schools Partnership has worked since 2010:
“Eighty percent of students at Revere High School in Massachusetts live at or below the poverty level, and many are English language learners. But that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be held to high standards, according to English teacher Nancy Barile. She created classes that get students excited about reading and help develop the Common Core skills they need. “These students have an opportunity to explore rigorous curriculum and gain the skills and dispositions that will truly make them college and career ready,” wrote Barile.
