Just in Time Session #6—Engaging Students and Families in Planning for Next School Year
It’s of vital importance that schools engage students and families in the process of planning for the coming academic year. In this session, we’ll explore why it’s vital and how to engage equitably. When all stakeholders are heard, school communities are better prepared to address the inequities laid bare by the pandemic.
Participants in this session will consider why student and family engagement is essential, explore resources and strategies for engagement, and participate in small group conversations to reflect on and establish next steps for moving forward. Participants will also have the chance to consider the role of student and family voice through one of three lenses: the classroom, the school or district, or the broader community.
What is the format?
This session, which will be conducted virtually via Zoom, will include interactive small-group discussions. We will not be recording this session.
Who should attend?
This session is designed to make space for classroom teachers to consider how to engage the voices of students and families in classroom-based decisions; it is also designed for school leaders who can influence school- or district-wide planning processes. Students, parents, and family advocates are also welcome.
