Let’s Talk: Dessert & Discussion, Part Four: Race – The Power of an Illusion

As Supreme Court Justice Harry Blackmun wrote, “In order to get beyond racism, we must first take account of race. There is no other way.”

Great Schools Partnership (GSP) is hosting our fourth Let’s Talk: Dessert and Discussion event.

Local educators are invited to join us for a viewing of episode 3 of RACE – The Power of an Illusion, a three-part PBS documentary about race, privilege, policy, and justice. Episode 3: The House We Live In, the final episode, continues to explore the historical meaning of race and how it continues to impact our lives today. We will learn how our political, legal, financial, and cultural institutions have used race, a social construct, to create systems that intentionally marginalize people of color.

We hope this discussion series will provide a safe and supportive space for educators to delve into discussions about race, racism, and culture.  Additionally, we hope that these discussions will lead to change in the lives of the educators who attend as well as the lives of the students they serve.

The event is free and open to anyone who is interested, even if you didn’t attend a previous event. Space is limited so please register in advance.
