Let’s Talk: Dessert & Discussion, Part One: I am from here
September 11, 2019

Great Schools Partnership Office
482 Congress Street, Suite 500
Portland, Maine 04101

Join us for the first in a series of facilitated conversations, called Let’s Talk:  Dessert & Discussion, which will provide participants with a safe and supportive environment to engage in topics not often discussed in schools. This event is free and open to all educators in and around the Portland area.

In our first session, we will watch Vermont filmmaker Bess O’Brien’s new film, “I am from here,” which explores the experiences and viewpoints of children of color in predominantly white schools. The film features students of color, teachers, and social justice leaders talking about the realities and impact of racism in Vermont; it is designed to help educators think about the implications for our teaching and the design of schools. After viewing the film, participants will explore personal and community issues related to racial equity and will discuss strategies for providing a safe and nurturing environment for all learners.
