PLGs: From Implementation to Impact
Professional learning groups (PLGs) provide dedicated and supported time during which educators can evaluate student work, tune assessments and plans, and engage in constructive dialogue with peer educators. Yet, how do we know that our PLGs are serving this vital purpose in our school? We have time to meet and collaborate, but how do we ensure that the work improves teaching, impacts student learning, and builds a collaborative school culture? In this session, we will outline essential considerations that can guide successful PLG implementation and share key tools to use right away to improve PLGs. Participants will explore tools and strategies to assess the effectiveness of individual PLGs as well as their school-wide impact, and create a plan of action to use PLGs to move towards greater educational equity.
Because this session focuses on coordinated school-level actions, we encourage participants to register as teams that include facilitators, administrators, and other decision makers.

- Explore tools and processes to reflect on the impact of professional learning group structures.
- Refine agendas to maximize participant engagement.
- Use a data analysis protocol to determine next steps for a PLG.
- Facilitate at least one protocol and reflect on effectiveness.
