Discovery Session—Pursuing Racial Equity: Be the Change We Want to See

Have you already begun to have bold conversations and want to lean into the discomfort as you learn how the ideology of white supremacy upholds the existence and persistence of racial disparities in the United States? Then join us for our next discovery session on pursuing racial equity. It’s time to ensure just outcomes for all students, raise marginalized voices, and challenge the imbalance of power and privilege.

Regardless of the demographics of your school community, true educational equity will never be achieved in the absence of racial equity. Racial equity can’t be achieved without a commitment to embracing anti-racist policies and practices. This is an ongoing journey that requires full engagement in a series of intertwined and compulsory actions such as ongoing self-reflection, acknowledging white supremacy, recognizing the complexities of the various levels of racism, and having crucial conversations with friends, family, and colleagues.

In this session, participants will:   

1. Identify strategies to combat racism in their homes, schools, organizations, and communities.  

2. Build a clearer understanding of key concepts and vocabulary such as racial equity and the four forms of racism: structural, institutional, interpersonal, and internalized  

3. Learn to talk about race constructively within their schools and communities, as well as amongst their friends, families, and colleagues 

4. Increase their understanding of the history and legacy of race in American economic and policy development, as well as racial identity and its interaction with institutional culture.

What Are Discovery Sessions?

Discovery sessions are virtual opportunities to discover and explore topics or issues that are important to you, your school, or your community. All individuals are welcome to participate.
